What Is the Civility Ambassador Program?
The Civility Ambassador Program is a leadership and education initiative that helps participants develop the skills necessary to engage in respectful dialogue, navigate difficult conversations, and model professionalism in their academic and professional communities.
Participants learn practical civility skills, demonstrate a commitment to those principles, and share their knowledge with others.
Upon successful completion of the program requirements, participants receive a Civility Ambassador Certificate, which may be included on resumes, applications, and professional materials.
Why Become a Civility Ambassador?
By becoming a Civility Ambassador, you will strengthen your leadership, communication, and professional skills while helping foster a culture of respectful dialogue and principled disagreement within your school and broader community.
Program Requirements
To become a certified Civility Ambassador, program participants must complete four main requirements:
Complete Civility Training
Complete at least two qualifying civility-related training programs.
Sign the Civility Pledge
Read and sign the Civility Pledge to confirm your commitment to civility principles.
Teach and Promote Civility
Present civility curriculum, inform others about the program, and help coordinate a CD3 event.
Fill Out and Submit the Certification Form
Complete the online Certification Form below. Upon review and verification, qualifying participants will be awarded the Civility Ambassador Certificate.
Complete Civility Training
Participants must complete at least two of the following civility-related training programs:
Civility Leadership Training
A leadership and professional development program that provides practical skills for engaging with differing viewpoints, approaching sensitive topics constructively, and improving active listening skills.
Civil Discourse and Difficult Decisions (CD3)
A national initiative of the federal courts which teaches civility through volunteer attorneys and judges and enables students to practice civil discourse through mock trial proceedings before a sitting judge.

A continuing legal education (CLE) program addressing lawyers' professional responsibilities to act with civility, defend the judiciary, and promote the rule of law.
Courts and Civility
A public education program that explains the role of courts and promotes respect for the rule of law and the importance of civility in civic life.

Participants must read and sign the Civility Pledge to confirm their commitment to civility principles.

Eight principles of respectful dialogue, affirmed by every Civility Ambassador.
Teach and Promote Civility
Present the Courts and Civility curriculum to at least 10 individuals.
Inform at least 10 individuals about the Civility Ambassador Program.
Inform faculty or administrators about CD3 and work toward coordinating or attending at least one CD3 program.
Submit the Certification Form
Once you have completed all three prior requirements, fill out and submit the Certification Form below. Upon review and verification of the submitted materials, qualifying participants will be awarded the Civility Ambassador Certificate.
